Are you looking for a meaningful Christmas gift, a new family tradition, a way to make a difference this Christmas? Each year Reformed Church World Service provides you with an opportunity to make your Christmas season richer and more Christ-centered, while at the same time enriching the life of a child or family whose needs are great. Give to Reunite Families in Myanmar
Following the devastation of Cyclone Nargis in 2008, economic
necessity has forced many families in Myanmar to withdraw their
children from school and send them away to work in tea rooms.
There they work 15-hour days for a pittance and are separated from
their families for months at a time. Because they are growing up
without an education, these children are destined for a life of menial
work and subsistence living.
Working with our partner, the Reformed Evangelical Church in
Myanmar, Reformed Church World Service plans to reunite these
children with their families and give them a new beginning.
Your gift of $15 will supply a child with food, tuition, and school
expenses for a month. With a contribution of $180 (12 months) or
more, you will receive a photo of the child you sponsor.
Give to Help People Who Rely on Food Pantries
This year food pantry grant requests to Reformed Church
World Service (RCWS) shot up by 36 percent over previous
years.
Thanks to the generous gifts of RCA members, RCWS was able to
respond. But high unemployment and shrinking resources
continue to devastate families across North America.
Your gift of $100 will feed a family of four for an entire week.
And thanks to matching grants from the federal government and
various nonprofit organizations, each gift will be multiplied!
Give a Cow to Relieve Poverty in India
In India owning a cow can make the difference between a secure,
reliable income and sending your children to school or living
constantly on the ragged edge.
Over the past five years, RCA missionary Linn Gann has worked with
the Church of South India, a Reformed Church World Service partner,
to provide families and villages with cows. To date, over 186 families
in eight villages have received a cow, along with training and
veterinary support to make sure they care for the cow and use its
products wisely.
The first female calf born to a family is returned to the program so that
another family can be blessed. Many families and individuals have
been transformed spiritually through this program as they have seen
the love of Christ manifest in word and deed. In two villages, Christian
churches have been planted as a result of this witness.
You can provide a family with a cow for $500. Perhaps your family
members or your church family could join together to bless a family in
India.
Give a Goat to Sustain Life in Kenya
In much of Africa, goats are a key economic development tool.
Thanks to generous donors, since 1999 RCWS has been able to
distribute tens of thousands of goats to families in Africa.
This year goats are desperately needed in Maasailand, a remote area of
Kenya that is home to the Maasai people. The lives of these seminomadic
people center on their herds of cattle and goats. Because it
has hardly rained for two years in Maasailand, many Maasai goats and
cows have died of starvation, and the people are suffering a great deal.
Maasai families rely on goat milk and meat for protein.
Because of the remoteness of the area where the Maasai live and the
type of goat needed to thrive there, goats are a bit more expensive this
year: $50 will provide one goat to a family. To give a Gift of Hope this Christmas, just click on the Make a Donation button. As a thank you from RCWS, you will receive a small ornament and a gift card to present to a loved one.
