The RCA welcomes Jill Ver Steeg to its staff as the coordinator for transformational equipping. In this role, she will serve as the leader of the Transformational Experiences team, which facilitates opportunities for churches to learn from and with one another—most often through learning communities focused on different aspects of ministry.

Ver Steeg brings to the position a strong grasp of leadership and discipleship development in the church, and a passion for helping churches foster this in their communities.

“I am very pleased that Jill has accepted our offer to serve in this significant role within the RCA,” says RCA general secretary Tom De Vries. “Jill’s experience as a pastoral leader, her broad knowledge of a variety of discipleship resources and processes, and her deep commitment to assist congregations in their efforts to help their members live and love like Jesus will all contribute to her fruitful ministry in the RCA.”

Ver Steeg earned her master of divinity from Western Theological Seminary in 2003. While attending seminary, she also served as the chaplain at Hope College.

Since 2003, Ver Steeg has worked as the teaching pastor at Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Her pastoral duties there included preaching, leading an adult discipleship team, training and empowering new leaders, supervising youth ministry staff, and providing pastoral care. She has also been working toward a doctor of ministry degree with a focus on leadership development at Fuller Theological Seminary, expecting to graduate in 2017.

Ver Steeg expressed excitement about her new ministry role at the RCA, saying, “[I] eagerly anticipate seeing how God is at work in our churches, communities, and various contexts. I look forward to partnering with leaders across the denomination, together shouldering the mission of living and loving like Jesus through the vision of Transformed & Transforming.”

Ver Steeg will begin her ministry as a member of the RCA staff on September 16.
