The Reformed Church in America is now accepting applications from persons interested in serving as the denomination’s next general secretary.

The application period will close November 10.

“I think there are people God has anointed who run toward a challenge,” said Michelle Chahine, communications coordinator for the general secretary search team. “Our team is praying that [potential candidates] would heed God’s calling on their life and be willing to serve as they have been called.”

The search team is made up of 12 individuals from throughout the denomination and is tasked with selecting a candidate from the pool of applicants based on criteria set by the General Synod Council. Chahine said the team’s goal is to select a top candidate and present their recommendation to the GSC by March 1. That individual will then be formally interviewed by the GSC later in March.

Chahine said the search team met earlier in September in Chicago to pray for the potential applicants and the future general secretary.

“We prayed that they would approach God’s calling on their life with no fear,” she said. “Knowing the climate of the denomination right now, we prayed that they would embrace these challenges and are energized by them, and that their skills and gifts can bring us through this—not only through these challenges, but beyond them.”
