The people of Maasailand are nomads,
moving constantly in search of the one
thing without which they cannot survive:
water. From 2003 to 2006 Kenya experienced
a devastating drought.
In search of water the Maasai
dug a bore hole by hand.
But it was not enough. They lost half of their cattle, a devastating loss
for a community whose entire economy is
built around livestock.
Not unlike the
people of
Jesus’ day, the
Maasai people
of Kenya must
walk long
distances to
their water
supply, often as
much as two to
three miles
each way.
But all too
often the water
they drink is
the same water
their cattle drink and bathe in, resulting in
typhoid, cholera, malaria, and other
diseases.
Please join the Reformed Church in
America in partnering with the
Presbyterian Church in East Africa and
Maasai Mission to construct five modern
wells in Maasailand. These wells will make it
possible to irrigate land and grow crops that
will improve the Maasai diet. They will also
enable families to devote less time to finding
water for survival and more time to
educating their children.
Each well costs
$39,300. The
entire project will
cost almost
$200,000.
Perhaps your
church can
sponsor a single
well. Or perhaps
you can partner
with another
church.
Whatever your contribution, we invite
you to invest with us in bringing a cup
of clean water to the Maasai in the name
of Jesus.
