Leadership Cohorts

These cohorts are a nine-month training intensives for leaders who long for deeper gospel transformation in themselves and in the world around them.

These cohorts will be a holistic journey that will develop self-leadership, team leadership, and organizational leadership.

Learning self-leadership

To lead others, you must first lead yourself. The character necessary to make and keep commitments to yourself is the foundation for all the other kinds of leadership. If you can’t lead yourself, how will you lead others?

What you will learn:

  • Fully present to yourself, others, and God
  • Bridging the gap between what you know and what you do
  • Listening to the Holy Spirit in the mundane, ordinary times of your life
  • Becoming more responsive to the voice of God
  • Proclaiming the good news to yourself and others
  • Training other leaders and multiply disciples

Learning team and organizational leadership:

We want to move beyond the theoretical and provide practical guidance on leading teams and organizations. How do I create and develop leaders? How do we create the right environment for growth?

What you will learn:

  • Developing more and better leaders
  • Building effective teams and increasing volunteer engagement
  • Enhancing your weekend worship experience
  • Designing a clear pathway for discipleship
  • Clarifying roles between board, staff, and congregation
  • Applying the right systems and structures for growth
  • Establishing healthy and sustainable finances
  • Utilizing tools to monitor health and growth

What’s involved?

A 75–90-minute video call twice a month with a cohort of four to six other senior leaders. Nothing replaces the power of this simple twice-a-month rhythm for regular training, discussions, questions, and processing.

The first call focuses on self-leadership. The second call focuses on practical strategies to increase the health and vitality of your church.

Who should join?

This process is open to pastors looking to grow in their ability to live, love, and lead like Jesus, wherever God has placed them. The most important qualifications are an open heart, attentive ears, and a commitment to the journey.

There will only be room for four to six pastors in every cohort, so space is limited.

Sung Kim

Sung loves to disrupt the status quo, but not so much that this former New Yorker won’t cheer for the Big Ten home team in Ann Arbor where he is also pastor of a growing church. In addition to sporting maize and blue, Sung is an avid consumer of artisan coffee and craft beer—two things Ann Arbor has plenty of! He is highly visionary, thoroughly pragmatic, and always curious about what makes people tick and what makes organizations great.
