On March 14, 2019, Cylcone Idai struck Mozambique with powerful winds and torrential rains. With a death toll over 1,000 people, the storm is one of the deadliest on record in the southern hemisphere. The flooding devastated nearly 3 million people across Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
RCA missionaries Chad and Dara Vanden Bosch rode out the storm in their home in Chimoio, an experience Chad called the longest night of his life. While they walked out to a well-built home that was (mostly) intact, Chad estimated that more than a quarter of all homes in Chimoio were damaged by the storm, and perhaps even more devastating, roughly one million acres of farmland were completely under water.
Global Mission continues to work with local partners in Mozambique and with partners at Audio Scripture Ministries to provide funding for the agricultural needs created by the flooding. Your gift will go directly toward seeds and the replanting of fields, so that an entire growing season is not missed. In an agriculture-based economy, our brothers and sisters in Mozambique rely on these harvests for sustenance and income.
