- Evangelism and church planting
- Education and leadership development
In the vast grasslands of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the semi-nomad Maasai people graze large herds of cattle, sheep, and goats. While the tribe has maintained its rich culture for centuries, they lack clean water, sustainable food sources, adequate healthcare and education, and, most importantly, access to the good news of Jesus Christ presented in Word and deed.
Bishop Pastor Simon Muntolol founded Maasai Outreach Mission (MOM) in 1984 with a holistic approach to mission. Pastor Simon contextualizes the gospel in a way the Maasai can understand and receive while still embracing their culture. In response, the number of MOM churches have increased sevenfold. Since 2007, the Reformed Church in America and MOM have cultivated sustainable community development principles and led a church planting movement through digging wells, supporting education, training teachers, developing church leadership, and providing healthcare for underserved, remote Maasai communities.
