About Harry & Pat Miersma
For 35 years Harry and Pat Miersma have provided counseling and crisis intervention services for missionaries working in over 75 countries for the RCA and for Wycliffe Bible Translators. Currently based in Dallas, their role remains international in nature. As senior member of Wycliffe’s counseling staff, Harry counsels and consults with missionaries all over the world. He also helps prepare other counselors for this unique ministry.
Pat Miersma is a Mental Health Nurse-Ethnic Clinical Specialist. She currently serves as the SIL Global Trauma Healing Consultant for the work of SIL and SIL partners using materials and workshops she helped develop in Africa for communities traumatized by war and other traumatic events. Based on the book she co-authored with three SIL colleagues in 2001—Healing the Wounds of Trauma: How the Church Can Help—and related training workshops, this practical Scripture engagement tool has now been translated into over 150 languages and is being used in over 50 countries around the world. Since 2010, the American Bible Society, a partner of SIL and Wycliffe Bible Translators, has continued the development of the book, its derivatives and related workshops, through the work of its Trauma Healing Institute where Pat serves on the Trauma Healing Advisory Council. Pat also currently serves on the Wycliffe USA Board of Directors.
The RCA and Wycliffe have worked in partnership since 2003, strengthening their shared efforts to bring God’s Word to millions of people still without a Bible in their language.
