On Thursday, General Synod declared Jaeseung Cha a General Synod professor. Cha, an ordained minister in the RCA, is the associate professor of constructive and foundational theology at New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

“Of course it’s a great honor to me,” says Cha of his appointment. “As a pastor and professor at the seminary, I believe I have a responsibility to bring something to the education of seminarians … Because I attended Western Theological Seminary and now work at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, I’m also excited to work together with both my present colleagues and my own professors.”

Cha has served as a lecturer in theology at the Ministry Training Center in Vanuatu, at Anyang University in South Korea, and at Torch Trinity Graduate University in South Korea; and as an adjunct professor at Soongsil University in South Korea and at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in the Philippines. He has theological degrees from Western Theological Seminary and the Free University of Amsterdam.

Cha has also served in numerous leadership roles in the Reformed Church in America and a number of organizations and professional guilds in the United States, Korea, and globally.

The RCA considers General Synod professors one of the four offices of the church. General Synod professors prepare and certify candidates for the ministry of Word and sacrament, as well as offer a “ministry of teaching within the RCA as a whole,” according to the Book of Church Order. There are nine current General Synod professors.
