On October 11, Central Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, turned 175 years old. The church celebrated the occasion with a special series of events, including a picnic, a gala, and two Sunday morning services.

“Even though Central Reformed Church enjoys a rich tradition and a firm historical foundation, we are more than that,” says Louis Lotz, pastoral leader. “Central is a congregation of faithful people—and as such, we also have an unwavering faith in our future.”

Katherine Lee Baker, minister for lifelong learning and adult discipleship, agrees: “Central Reformed Church is a dynamic people eager to follow Jesus Christ as Lord—and this 175th celebration has our congregation asking the question: ‘How do we participate in the challenges of the 21st century?”

Lotz believes that Central is well-positioned for years of continued ministry. “We are a downtown church with a classical worship style, a lively social conscience, and a willingness to engage the issues of the day. We are excited about our future, and we welcome neighbors near and far to join us on the journey.”
