The proposals encourage leadership collaboratives for global church planting and small churches
On Monday, June 11, General Synod 2018 affirmed two proposals offered by General Synod president Lee DeYoung in his report on Friday, June 8.
His first proposal urges the new general secretary “to explore possibilities for establishing a global church planters’ leadership collaborative to facilitate ongoing interactions between North American church planters and counterparts in selected countries where the RCA is engaged with indigenous global mission partners.”
As part of Transformed & Transforming, leadership collaboratives are gatherings of small groups of leaders who commit to learning and growing together to increase their leadership capacity while serving in their context.
DeYoung’s second proposal recommends that the general secretary “help facilitate the launch of small church leadership collaboratives in at least three different RCA regional synods.” A “small church” is defined in this case as a church that averages less than 100 worshipers. These leadership collaboratives would foster relationships among leaders of small churches who face many of the same challenges in their ministry contexts.
