Lee DeYoung was voted the next president of General Synod on Monday, June 12.

“I’m deeply humbled and grateful,” said DeYoung, vice president of General Synod 2017. “I’ve had the privilege of being at 31 of the past 33 synods. … Ever since, it’s been a high point for me to be here and be a part of that.”

DeYoung expressed confidence in God: “As difficult a situation as we have here and as real as our differences and attacks of the enemy are, the church around the world has faced this.”

Speaking about the general secretary transition in the RCA taking place in his time as president, he said, “I sense the prayers of God’s people. I feel a sense buoyancy. … God bless us all as we serve him.”

DeYoung is an elder at Hager Park Reformed Church in Jenison, Michigan, and vice president for international ministry at Words of Hope. He will be installed as president during General Synod closing worship. He will serve over the coming year and will preside over General Synod 2018. DeYoung and his wife, Sheri, have four children and 26 grandchildren.
