The RCA welcomes Rick Zomer to its staff as the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement. Zomer will be leading Team Next, which prepares and empowers the next generation to embrace God’s call on their life as leaders and serve as agents of change in their world.

It is no accident that Zomer comes to the position with 25 years of experience working with youth. His life, he says, has been “deeply shaped by a calling I feel from God to serve his kingdom through working with young people.”

Zomer followed that call to student life positions at several colleges and universities, including Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He served Calvin College, his alma mater, in a number of leadership roles, most recently as the director of event services.

“These experiences have put me in daily contact with young people who are growing deeply in their faith, as well as those who have walked away from a personal relationship with God and a commitment to the church,” Zomer says. “As a result, I have developed a passion for helping young people grow and mature in their faith and assisting them as they seek to discern God’s call on their life.”

RCA general secretary Tom De Vries is excited to see Zomer pursue that passion as the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement.

“Rick’s past experience and passion for mentoring young people in their faith make him an excellent fit for the coordinator for Next Generation Engagement,” says De Vries. “I look forward to seeing him use his leadership gifts to equip congregations to raise up the next generation of Christ followers who engage in kingdom work.”

Zomer will begin work as a member of the RCA staff on February 22.
