Nominations Profile

Step 1 of 2

The Commission on Nominations (CoN) nominates members of the Reformed Church in America for election by the General Synod to its commissions, agencies, and boards. All confessing members of the RCA (ministers, commissioned pastors, elders, and deacons, as well as those who are not ordained to an office) are eligible to serve.

The CoN is called to identify diverse and healthy leaders—inclusive with respect to geography, gender, age, cultural and social diversity, and academic or other appropriate expertise—for service in the church.

Each submitted profile is received by the CoN and added to a profile pool used to fill open positions every spring before names are submitted to the General Synod for approval. Every profile remains active for three years once submitted. If your profile is not used within those three years, you will be invited to submit a new profile to then be active for another three years. Your profile may or may not be chosen based solely on what roles are open and what the CoN finds to be the best fit for that opening based on Book of Church Order requirements, commission requests, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If your profile is selected for an opening, you will be contacted by a member of the CoN in late spring. Submitting a profile does not guarantee a place on a commission, board, or agency of the RCA.

Serving on a commission or board involves meeting a few times per year for the length of your term, as well as work that may be assigned for follow-up between meetings. Most groups meet primarily via videoconference, with a maximum of one in-person meeting per year. Some boards may meet in person twice per year. With the exception of the General Synod Council, a term of service is three years long, beginning on July 1, and may be renewed once for a total of six years of service. General Synod Council terms are four years long, beginning on July 1, and may not be renewed.
