Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

Sentences, adapted from Psalm 34

We shall bless the Lord at all times!
His praise shall continually be in our mouths!
Our soul makes its boasts in the Lord;
Let the humble hear and be glad!
O magnify the Lord with me,
Let us exalt his name together.
We sought the Lord and he answered us;
God has delivered us from our fears.
Look to the Lord and be radiant.
Our faces shall never be ashamed.

Come, O children, listen;
We shall teach you the fear of the Lord!
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous;
The ears of God are open to our cry.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and
God saves all who are crushed in spirit.

The Lord redeems the lives of his servants;
All who take refuge in him shall be saved!

Prayer of Confession

Most holy and merciful Father,
We acknowledge and confess before you our sinful nature,
Prone to evil and slow to do good,
And all our shortcomings and offenses.
You alone know how often we have sinned:
In wandering from your ways,
In wasting your gifts,
In forgetting your love.
But, O Lord, have mercy on us,
Who are ashamed and sorry from all wherein we have displeased you.
Teach us to hate our errors;
Cleanse us from our secret faults,
And forgive our sins;
For the sake of your dear son.
And, O most holy and loving God,
Help us to live in your light and walk in your ways,
According to the commandments of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Sung response:

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Assurance of Pardon

God has dealt generously with his servants; God has made each of us his kin. Therefore, receive forgiveness from God and imitate the love of Christ—for we have become a fragrant offering in the Spirit and sacrifice to God on high.
