Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

Sentences, adapted from Psalm 125 and Psalm 146

Praise the Lord, people of God!
Glorify the Lord who sets captives free!
We shall praise the Lord as long as we live;
Our God of glory has freed us from the grave!

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
They cannot be moved; they abide forever.
Trust not in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help.
Trust only in the Lord; in the day of the Lord find refuge.

The Lord does good to those who seek justice,
The Lord blesses those who are upright in their hearts.
Our hope is in the name of the Lord
Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them.
Praise the Lord who keeps faith forever.

Call to Confession, adapted from Psalm 125:4-5

Let us turn aside from our crooked ways and from the evil ways of our hearts,
that we may receive the peace of God who shows true mercy.

Prayer of Confession

Trustworthy Lord,
Your name is greater than riches;
Your favor is better than silver and gold.
Even so, we confess our sins before you:
We have taken your name in vain;
We have misplaced your favor for our own benefit.
When we are at work, your glory is far from our hearts.
When we are at home, your success is nowhere nearby.
Have mercy on us, Lord, and rebuke us.
Turn our eyes from judgment and
Turn our hearts from partiality,
That our faith might be kindled once again,
Renewed to your glory and committed to your honor.
In the name of your son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and
By the power of your Spirit we pray all things.

Assurance of Pardon, from Isaiah 35:1-2

The redeemed of the Lord shall return to Zion.
"The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad,
The desert shall rejoice and blossom...
They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God."

OR, from Isaiah 35:3-4

"Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.
Say to those with a fearful heart, 'Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God!'
God shall come and save you."

Prayer for Illumination, from Isaiah 35:5-6

"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And the ears of the deaf unstopped;
Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the speechless sing for joy."
