Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

Sentences, adapted from Lamentations 3

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
God's mercies never come to an end.
They are new every morning!
Great is thy faithfulness!
We shall together say, "The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will hope in him!"
The Lord is good to those who wait for him.
The Lord's abundance is for those who seek his face.
It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Call to Confession, adapted from 2 Corinthians 8

The Lord Christ Jesus gave everything that we who are poor may be made rich. In celebration and humility, we come before God to confess our sins.

Prayer of Confession

Generous and loving Lord,
We have forgotten you and failed you time and again.
Even so, you do not forget and you will not fail.
We confess that we have not shown kindness to those whom you love;
We have held in contempt those to whom you have shown mercy.
Grant us your strength and give us your peace.
In true wisdom, may we be ever patient and loving,
That we may glorify your name and live in your everlasting victory.
It is in the name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray all things.

Assurance of Pardon

Sung Response: Great Is Thy Faithfulness, verse 3

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Prayer for Illumination

God of certainty and Lord of all generations,
You are the Christ, the suffering servant and the risen one!
Turn to us. Rebuke us. And set our mind not on human things but on things divine. Amen.
