Fifth Sunday in Lent (Year A)
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
Hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love
and great power to redeem.
The Lord will redeem us from all our iniquities.
Psalm 130:5-8 (adapted)
Prayer of Confession
our sins are too heavy to carry,
too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name,
what our hearts can no longer bear,
and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment.
Set us free from a past that we cannot change;
open us to a future in which we can be changed;
and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image;
through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

Assurance of Pardon
There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Prayer for Illumination
Almighty God: at your command the blind see, the lame walk, the dead are raised to new life. Speak to us now through your Word and Holy Spirit that we may be raised to new life in Christ, and serve you with joy all our days.
