Fourth Sunday in Lent (Year B)
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
God's steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
All the people of the land, from the east to the west and from the north to the south,
We shall praise God's holy name!
Adapted from Psalm 107:1-3
Call to Confession
Even though we are sick to our sinful ways, God answers our cry;
God is near to us in our troubles.
Let us be thankful to the Lord for his steadfast love and for his wonderful works to humankind.
Adapted from Psalm 107:17-21
Prayer of Confession
You have come into the world to condemn us not
yet we have forsaken your love,
refused your abundance,
and chosen to see your grace less clearly.
We are sorry for keeping what you desire us to share,
and discarding what you desire us to use well.
Change our hearts, God,
that we might work diligently in the world you have given us,
seek healing for those who are hurting,
and care for all without discrimination.
Above all, grow us as disciples of Jesus Christ and witnesses of the Holy Spirit;
raise us up that we might become beacons of your love.
Assurance of Pardon
But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Prayer for Illumination
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
