Seventh Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

Sentences, adapted from Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and all who live in it;
For God has founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in God's holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
Those who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
Those who do not swear deceitfully.
Yes, surely, they will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors! That the king of glory may come in!
Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors! That the king of glory may come in!
Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Call to Confession, adapted from Ephesians 1:7-10

In Jesus Christ, the King of glory, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that has been lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight, Christ has made known to us the mystery of God's will and a plan for the fullness of time to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. Come, let us worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth, confessing our sins before the Lord.

Prayer of Confession

Omnipotent Lord,
You have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing known and unknown. Even so, we confess that we have demanded your riches without a grateful heart, And we have requested your magnificence without a sacrificial life.

We realize that we have walked in our own ways, predicting you would follow. We acknowledge that we have lacked reverence and relevance in your creation.

Forgive our sins, God of mercy,
Cleanse our minds, Spirit of truth.
May we follow your son Jesus Christ into the world,
Ministering peace and justice,
Proclaiming the gospel of grace and salvation,
That we may serve all of your peoples and all of your goodness to the ends of the world.
In the name of the Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit we pray,

Assurance of Pardon, adapted from Psalm 85:1-2

God has been favorable to the land; the Lord has restored the fortunes of his chosen ones.
You have forgiven the iniquities of your people; you have pardoned all our sins.

Prayer for Illumination

Creator, Redeemer, Friend,
Awaken us to life in you. Put to death all that causes despair.
And walk with us this wide and narrow journey,
That we might realize your full presence now and forevermore.
