Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

Sentences, adapted from Psalm 111

Praise the Lord! Holy and awesome is his name!
We shall give thanks to the Lord with our whole hearts,
Together as one voice and as one congregation!
Great are the works of the Lord, full of honor and majesty!
The righteousness of God endures forever.
The hands of the Lord are faithful and just.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All who practice it have good understanding.
The praise of the Lord shall endure forever.
The glory of God shall last a lifetime.

Prayer of Confession

Sustaining Lord and everlasting Father,
You are the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation.
We confess before you the many times
When we have eaten from another table,
When we have filled our bellies with evil, and
When we have caused suffering upon others.
Have mercy on us, God.
Pour out your Spirit and harvest for us your grace,
That we may give thanks to you
At all times and in all places,
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Amen.

Assurance of Pardon, from Ezekiel 36:25-26

The Lord shall never refuse you.
The Son of God shall never send you away.

Says the Lord, "I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

Prayer for Illumination

Sung response: "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence," verse 1

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly minded,
For with blessing in his hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth
Our full homage to demand.

OR

Gracious God,
We do not live by bread alone,
But by every word that comes from your mouth.
Make us hungry for this heavenly food,
That it may nourish us today
In the ways of eternal life,
Through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.
