Carl Boersma Elected Vice President
Carl Boersma, redevelopment pastor of Faith Reformed Church in Brookings, South Dakota, on Tuesday was elected as vice president of General Synod.
"I am surprised. I am honored. I am humbled," said Boersma, a graduate of Northwestern College and Western Theological Seminary who was raised in Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, South Dakota.
"Jesus is my role model, full of grace and truth. My theme is always to live in and demonstrate grace, especially as we listen to one another. I am eager to pursue our future—one that is Reformed, ecumenical, and evangelical."
Carl and Amy Boersma have been married for 36 years. They have two daughters, both married to RCA pastors—Heather and Josh Van Leeuwen in Holland, Michigan, and Kim and Jamie Dykstra in Lennox, South Dakota—and three grandchildren.
Boersma previously served as pastor of Silver Creek Reformed Church in Silver Creek, Minnesota; as pastor of discipleship at Peace Reformed Church in Eagan, Minnesota; and as planting pastor of New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa. He has served as president of both Minnesota and West Sioux Classes, on the board of trustees for both Northwestern College and Words of Hope, and as a member of the RCA's Board of Benefits Services.
"We will be in prayer for the months ahead and for the denomination," Boersma said. "Please remember us in prayer as together we listen, discover, discern, and move forward toward the future God has in store for us."
