Afrik Named Coordinator for Local Missional Engagement
Robyn Afrik has joined the denominational staff as the RCA's coordinator for local missional engagement. In this role, she will work to help congregations, classes, and regional synods live out the gospel in transformational ways. Afrik began on March 4.
"I am excited for the ways in which God will teach, inspire, and equip us all to learn how to extend the church into community beyond what we may be doing or haven't thought of yet," says Afrik.
"I look forward to journeying with the RCA as we discover all of the new and current possibilities of missional engagement together."
"I believe that the RCA truly desires to 'go missional'; however, many of our congregations, classes, and regional synods just don't know how," says general secretary Tom De Vries. "Robyn will empower, equip, and engage the RCA to live out the gospel of Jesus in transformational ways.
"Robyn's gifts will help bridge the gap between the church and the community. I look forward to seeing God use Robyn's leadership to help bring salvation, compassion, reconciliation, and justice to our local communities."
Afrik has a bachelor of science in management degree from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Since 2007, Robyn served as the program director for Good Samaritan Ministries, AmeriCorps' Faith in Youth Partnership. Prior to that, she served as a trade adjustment assistance/employment specialist and a human resource recruiter.
Afrik is also the founder and president of Afrik Advantage, an organization dedicated to leading and facilitating key strategic initiatives for businesses, nonprofits, cities, and church groups interested in becoming intentionally diverse. She is also a nationally certified global career development facilitator.
