On Monday evening, delegates engaged in a lengthy discussion of the General Synod Council finance report.

The budget presented by the General Synod Council included a $4 increase to fund new initiatives related to Transformed and Transforming. After a number of delegates expressed concern about the hardship this would impose on churches, an amendment was adopted to eliminate that increase. A second amendment was adopted later, adding back $2 of the increase.

After pausing for prayer, synod approved the assessment of $44 per confessing member.

Additional assessments were adopted for the Board of Benefits Services assistance fund, theological education, and new task forces and initiatives that had been previously established by General Synod.

The full General Synod assessment for the coming year totals $51.73 per confessing member.
