Synod by the Numbers

Delegates and guests have been making their way to Pella, Iowa, for the RCA’s 208th General Synod, which begins this afternoon at Central College.

Of the 466 expected attendees:

• 266 drove, many in carpools
• 199 flew
• 167 caught a free shuttle ride from the airport, thanks to the help of 10 volunteer drivers
• More than 50 experienced flight delays
• 155 are women
• 311 are men

Voting delegates make up half of synod participants; another 15 percent are corresponding delegates, who have a voice but no vote. Other participants will be presenting reports, promoting ministries, representing RCA mission work, and assisting with the event.
