Noting that outdated guidelines for welcoming children to the Lord’s Table “serve[d] as a barrier to inclusion of children,” a year ago members of the Commission on Christian Discipleship and Education suggested, and synod approved, presenting a “more creative and deeply faithful way.”

The commission worked over the past year to revise and update the guidelines and presented them at this year’s General Synod, where they were approved on Friday afternoon.

The new resources include “Coming to the Table,” a workshop to help boards of elders prepare to welcome children to the Lord’s Table, and a comprehensive list of ready-to-use teaching tools for children, parents, and elders. All will be made available at no cost on the RCA website.
