In August 2016, massive flooding damaged 90 percent of the homes in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Hundreds of families are in need of assistance with home repairs.
Volunteer groups are needed to assist with general reconstruction, removal and replacement of sheetrock, insulation, trim installment, roofing, siding, electrical work, plumbing, and flooring. A local construction coordinator will assign work projects appropriate to the size and skill level of your group.
Your group will stay at a camp with a maximum capacity of 25 people per week. Meals during the work week are provided, but your group will be responsible for weekend meals.
$168 per person per week, which includes the cost of meals during the work week. The fee is payable to the local organization in Denham Springs. Your group is responsible for all costs associated with your trip.
Please bring sleeping bags, pillows, towels, and toiletries. A general packing list can be found on page nine of Preparing to Serve, a guide compiled by World Renew DRS. Materials and basic tools are provided and coordinated by the local construction coordinator. Skilled tradesmen are encouraged to bring their own tools if possible. This should be discussed with the local site coordinator during the planning process.
Generally, high school age and older are welcome. Groups that include youth must have an appropriate adult-to-youth ratio and adults who are able to supervise youth for work projects. It is helpful to have a couple of people with construction experience in your group, but this is not required. The local construction coordinator will provide guidance on work projects.
