Schoharie Reformed Church

Schoharie, New York

Still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Irene, Schoharie Reformed Church will not be beaten down! Despite severe damage to their church building, this church body is up to something. In an area where church is seen as a social club, and most of the population is not part of a faith community, this church is determined to bring the hope of Christ into the community it loves through an annual children's summer camp.

Come join the fun this summer at Schoharie Valley Community Day Camp! This exciting camp averages more than 100 campers each summer and has programming for all school-age children. The rambunctious, vivacious campers will give you a week to remember as you grow in relationship with them and church staff and see the Lord moving in a real and tangible way.

Opportunity type:
Volunteer opportunities:

Volunteers who love children and love God are needed to help run summer day camp at Schoharie Reformed Church (dates for 2019 are July 15-19). Volunteers with enthusiasm and musical skills are a plus. Individual volunteers of high school age and up are welcome, along with families and intergenerational groups.

First Reformed Church of Schenectady (a half-hour away) provides the primary housing for volunteer groups. Accommodations are intentionally simple. There are closer churches or hotels that groups have the opportunity to coordinate with if they desire (i.e., Middleburg Reformed Church).

Food: Teams that stay at First Reformed in Schenectady provide their own meals. Schoharie Reformed Church Heritage House is located next to camp and has a kitchen where teams can make dinner before heading to their accommodations for the evening.
