Audio Scripture Ministries works with national organizations around the world to produce and distribute audio recordings of God’s Word in a variety of languages. In India alone, more than 1,600 languages are spoken. Audio Scriptures give people access to the Bible in their own language, even when written translations aren’t available or the people are not literate.
Key Scripture: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? ... Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” (Romans 10:14, 17, NIV)
Volunteers will learn about the ministry of audio Bibles and their impact in India. Responsibilities may include assembling and distributing Scripture players among nonliterate groups and children’s homes, or collecting and documenting stories of transformation. Volunteers are encouraged to engage with intercultural discovery and healthy adaption.
“I went to India to change the world. The world changed me. [Audio Scripture Ministries] isn’t looking for a hand up. The staff is too busy with God’s work. They invited me to join their mission, their team, their family. JP’s lesson to us was that this trip is about who we are, not what we do. Eight years later, those words impact me.” —Ben Kester
“India is a place of extremes: extreme sounds, extreme colors, and extreme smells are a few examples of this. After spending two weeks there with the Sundararajan family, I also know of a few more extremes: extreme love, extreme kindness, extreme grace, and extreme faith in God. My time in India has increased my faith by showing me firsthand how the beautiful heart of God reaches to extreme places like a hotel lobby where an audio Bible is given to a man who has been waiting for five long years to receive one, or to a kind and gentle blind woman wearing torn and dusty clothes who walked many miles to receive God’s word. My eyes have been opened to a world bigger and more precious than I could have imagined, and I will forever be connected to the people of India.” —Desire Jansen
There are two apartments available for volunteers. Each apartment has one- and two-person bedrooms, attached bathrooms with hot water showers, WiFi and internet, and a shared living area. Indian meals and restaurant recommendations will be provided.
$2,500-$3,000 per person
Volunteers have the opportunity to visit local coffee shops, restaurants, and the local zoo and safari. Additionally, they may visit the local botanical gardens, the ancient Hindu and Jain temples, and the historic palace in the old capital of Karnataka.
A positive attitude goes a long way, along with an adventurous spirit, a strong faith background, flexibility, and a willingness to try new things, initiate ideas, and serve. Volunteers with experience in social media, video-making, or photography are invaluable.
