Engaging in Our Local Communities in Mission

Please know how much your leadership has helped to guide us at Reformed Church of Bronxville in visioning a new direction for mission. Your in-person workshop centering us on "what keeps us up at night" and where our values lie, and your insightful commentary after the meeting have led us to re-imagine who we are in mission and where we can best direct our resources.

As we began and continue to process what it means to be a missional church, Pastor Cortes Bast and her team led us in a process of deep discernment and learning. Birthed from the experience is the Emergency Food Pantry (Fort Plain) and the Bike Path Ministry (Sprakers) that feeds and provides respite for hundreds of people.

Eliza and Eduardo challenged our congregation to re-imagine mission, while encouraging us to ask difficult and honest questions of ourselves. They offered us clear, practical steps to evaluate existing missional practices and also provided a roadmap for implementing new ones. Above all, they reminded us that they were friends in ministry eager to assist our congregation in dreaming dreams and seeing visions in Bronxville and beyond.

The RCA Local Missional Engagement team and Eliza have been the cornerstone to our retreat center, Michigan Mission in Alger, Michigan, established in 2018. We received guidance in the application process of our 501(c)3, words of encouragement, and prayer for the retreat center. We discussed things like: what steps did I need to take to become a non-profit, establishing relationships in the community, getting my church family involved, and the site and program logistics.

The Living Well Church has been so blessed by the leadership, wisdom, and availability of the RCA's Local Missional Engagement staff. As a new church plant, we have already benefited from Eliza Bast's knowledge and experience at our staff/leadership retreat, as well as her inspiration and vision as a guest preacher. Personally, Eliza and her team have continually provided much needed encouragement and missional accountability for me as a church planter. I appreciate their willingness to help me, and our church, stay kingdom minded and mission focused!
