Benefits and ministries

The RCA cares for the people who devote themselves to serving the church: pastors, church staff, missionaries, retirees and surviving spouses, and denominational staff. Through the Board of Benefits Services (BOBS), employees receive medical, life, and long-term disability insurance, as well as contributions to retirement.

Retirement

To help you achieve financial security in retirement, BOBS provides a retirement plan designed for clergy, missionaries, and qualifying lay employees of the RCA, its agencies, and its affiliates.

Insurance

Ordained and commissioned pastors actively serving at least 17.5 hours per week are provided with employer-paid group life and long-term disability (LTD) insurance benefits through the Board of Benefits Services.

Free Christian counseling

The Employee Assistance Program provides free confidential Christian counseling services to eligible RCA pastors, retirees, denominational staff and domestic missionaries (foreign missionaries are covered through their Global United Healthcare plan), and their households.

In any given year, up to three visits per issue are provided through an outpatient clinic in your area or an online telehealth session. While Pine Rest only has clinics in Iowa and West Michigan, we are working with a network of providers who can provide face-to-face counseling across the U.S. and Canada. Also available is access to an online library containing articles about health, wellness, financial, tax, and legal matters; videos; forms calculators; and assessments.

Financial health

We believe that financial health frees pastors and other ministry leaders to serve. When finances are out of order, it’s much harder to focus on ministry. It’s our goal to equip pastors to be financially secure both now and in retirement. We offer resources so that pastors can get out of debt, budget well, and prepare for retirement. We also offer tools for negotiating fair compensation and for navigating taxes, including taking advantage of the tax benefits offered to ministers.

Employer resources

Whether you’re a church or a nonprofit, if you employ an RCA minister of Word and sacrament, you have a hand in the minister’s retirement plan, insurance benefits, and even taxes. Find all the information and forms in our employer resource center.
