Children's Ministries Director

Church or Organization: Pillar Church

Holland, MI

Full-time

Overview of Children’s Ministries Director
Pillar Church is seeking an experienced Children’s Ministries Director to lead its infant through 5th grade ministries. Pillar, as a church for the city, is committed to “reconciling divisions, raising up leaders, redeeming the city, and renewing the church,” and is searching for a dynamic leader who can be an important member of its leadership team and future. Pillar has more than 100 children and experiencing significant growth. The Children’s Ministries Director will provide leadership to children’s ministries by attracting and empowering a collaborative team of volunteer leaders.

Overview of Pillar Church
Pillar Church is a dual-affiliation congregation of the Reformed Church in America (RCA) and the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRC). Pillar Church was the first church established by those who settled the city of Holland in 1847. It was originally established as an RCA congregation by Reverend Albertus Van Raalte, but in 1884, after significant tension and a painful split, became a CRC church. After 130 years of division, in the Fall of 2012 the approximately 20 families of Pillar Church re-established themselves around a vision of reconciliation. The church where two denominations once divided is now a symbol of unity. Today, just 6 years later, almost 1,000 people attend Pillar Sunday services. As a church in the City and adjacent to Hope College and Western Theological Seminary, Pillar is home to many families, college and seminary students, situated among multiple school districts, with an opportunity for the Children’s Ministries Director God is sending to have local and even global impact.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
The Children’s Ministries Director will empower the congregation of Pillar Church in its mission to raise up leaders by developing, nurturing, and supporting the children’s ministries of the church in such a way that children grow up in “the truth of God’s word and in the way of salvation through Jesus Christ; are prayed for; and, are taught to pray and experience the strong support of the church in worship and in service.”

Changing congregational dynamics in a changing cultural climate requires the church to always be innovative in the way it seeks to raise up its children. For this reason, Pillar must always be willing to develop new opportunities for our children and seek to engage children from our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The ideal Children’s Ministries Director candidate will be a servant leader, helping the church establish and grow its investment in children as they move into middle school, high school, and on to college. The Director will be a collaborator with other ministry leaders as the voice for Pillar children and an important member of the staff leadership team.

The candidate must have a superior understanding of children’s ministries teaching curriculum and ministry tools and training. Experience with child development and family-based ministries will be important to the role.

To nurture our children in the Christian faith it is necessary for Pillar to provide opportunities to teach Bible lessons and faith lessons with regularity and excellence. This may be accomplished through various Sunday and creative during the week activities for both children and parents. The number of children in our care and our desire to engage and welcome more and more young families requires the Children's Ministries Director to equip and empower congregational members to carry out many of the specific opportunities and events. This individual is the key liaison with Pillar Church parents, seeking their input and support of various programs. This individual must enlist a network of supporters and advocates for children’s ministries, engage, and equip a team of parents, college students, and age-appropriate students who can bring a creative gospel message and caregiving to Pillar Kid’s ministries and activities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a stable and mature Christian faith consistent with the Pillar Church community.
  • Minimum of 3 years significant experience in children's ministry, directing primary education, or equivalent and relevant experience in a leadership capacity.
  • A proven track record of developing, recruiting, and leading an active volunteer culture. Strong ability to attract and oversee volunteers.
  • A proven team player and leader. Humble, teachable, servant leader.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong proactive work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Preemptive and proactive creative problem solving.
  • Passion for excellence and high attention to detail.

This is a full-time exempt position with competitive compensation and benefits allowance established according to qualifications, experience, and skills of the selected candidate.

Interested candidates should provide a cover letter and outline of qualifications to ministry@pillarchurch.com.

Pastor

Church or Organization: Powell River Reformed Church

Powell River, BC

Full-time

Powell River Reformed Church is nestled on the southern coast of British Columbia with the Pacific Ocean on our westerly horizon and the coastal mountains and numerous lakes in our backyard. Though travel in and out of our city (population 17,000) is accessed by either air or ferry, amenities of all kinds are available locally, including sports, cultural arts, shopping, hospital, schools, college, etc.

PRRC was a new church plant in 1990 and became affiliated with the RCA February 1, 1991. Only one church of varying Christian denominations resides here. As a result, Powell River has a very active and supportive Ministerial Association through which numerous joint ministry ventures are held, as well as monthly gathering of the pastors. Collectively the churches are currently involved in bringing the Young Life youth program into the community.

Challenges for all the churches here revolve to a great extent around outreach and discipleship. This is reflected in the fact that only 7% of the population are church affiliated, and within PRRC there are 27 active confessing members (plus 8 baptized children) with 41 adherents. Age demographic shows 40% of members under 65 and 94% Caucasian.

We are looking for a pastor whose desire is to partner with and further enable the congregates as together we live into our Mission/Vision Statement: God is moving us forward to be visible with the love of Jesus in creative ministry that meets community needs.

Although open to receiving other North American applicants, we strongly encourage Canadian candidates from both the RCA and CRC to apply. Minister profiles should be sent to: prreformedchurch1@gmail.com. If you would like to see Powell River Reformed Church’s profile, please contact Marla Rotman at the Office of Ministry services, mrotman@rca.org.  Please specify “Powell River Reformed Church” in your request.

Full-time

The Community Reformed Church in Whiting is searching for a full-time pastor who preaches Bible centered sermons and has a heart for pastoral visitation and care. Leadership in reaching out to the community is a priority as we are seeking to grow. Instruction in Bible study and ways to share the Gospel is also important to us.

The congregation is a unique and caring communion consisting mainly of retirees. From her inception as a new church start 40 years ago the church’s ministry focuses on retirees aged 55 years and older. Members have the desire and time to serve the Lord in a variety of ways, to grow spiritually, reach out to the community and so they look to the pastor for direction and encouragement. Members who are home-bound or in nursing homes need the TLC that a caring pastor can give. The church serves as a family to most members whose children and other relatives live far from Whiting.

Community Reformed Church in Whiting is located in the Pinelands of central New Jersey among several retirement villages. It is 90 miles south of New York City and 40 miles east of Philadelphia about 15 miles from the Jersey Shore.
