Associate Pastor

Church or Organization: St. Thomas Reformed Church

St. Thomas, VI

The Saint Thomas Reformed Church (STRC), located in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, is seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to lead and grow with its culturally diverse congregation of approximately 300 members. The STRC is a historic congregation which has been established for over 350 years, and has grown with the times to become a mainstay in today’s community. As we continue to grow, we have seen the need for an Associate Pastor to assist our Senior Pastor, and to organize a Christian Education program that ministers to all ages.

When the Virgin Islands were struck by two Category 5 hurricanes, our church became the center of our island community, providing food, water, and supplies for those in need. We rose from our hardship as a resilient and close-knit family who looks after one another. You would be coming into a community in a period of growth and change, and your creativity and forward thinking is needed to help us move ahead and reach further into our community.

Our church is built on a foundation of Faith, Hope, Love, and Grace. STRC is very proud of their participation in outreach programs such as My Brother’s Workshop (www.mybrothersworkshop.org), The Salvation Army, Longpath Community Center, and many others. We will expect you to embrace these opportunities to serve and to take part in community outreach.

The appropriate candidate for this position will be an energetic and outgoing individual, rich in faith, with strong leadership skills. You should have the desire, commitment and creativity to partner with the congregation to grow together. It is important that you help church leadership bring the church into the future while respecting the traditions and history of the past. We are looking for an individual to revive and lead the way to a new chapter in our Christian Education Program. With youth mission trips, Christian Education programs, and organizing home Bible study, there are many opportunities for the right person to exercise their skills in Christian Education, and put their talent to good use.

We are excited to welcome a new Associate Pastor who is anxious to be a part of our island community, not just our congregation! Are you ready to serve in a small community with big needs? Are you able to overcome the challenge of living on an island? Do you desire to use your Christian Education experience in a new and exciting way?  Consider becoming our new Associate Pastor.

If you would like to learn more about STRC, we invite you to review our website at www.strc.org. If you would like to apply or have any questions, please contact Malcolm Schweizer, Consistory VP, at mmschweizer@vipowernet.net or calling 340-513-9188 (cell).

Thank you for your prayerful consideration! We look forward to learning more about you and growing a healthy church in Saint Thomas together.

Director of Children & Family Ministries

Church or Organization: Sanctuary Christian Reformed Church

Seattle, WA

Sanctuary CRC is seeking a half-time (20 hour/week) Director of Children & Family Ministries.

The person we are looking for is a loving disciple of Jesus who feels called to a ministry of the spiritual formation of children and the encouragement of their parents as they take primary responsibility for showing their children what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, previous experience in serving and leading children or youth ministry, and a deep commitment to Christ, the Bible, and an appreciation for the Reformed view of Christian faith. They will be willing to make Sanctuary their home.

Thumbnail Sketch of the Congregation:
Sanctuary Christian Reformed Church (CRC) is a small, growing church with a vibrant children’s ministry located in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. On most Sundays about 70 adult worshipers and 30 children under the age of 12 gather for worship at 10am in Taproot Theatre. In addition to worship there is a nursery and 3 classes for children. Infants and toddlers are cared for in our nursery which is available beginning at 9:50am. Preschool through 2nd grade join the adults in worship through the greeting time and are then dismissed to 2 separate classes. Older children participate in youth group at 9am and then join their families in worship.

The adults in worship represent a broad spectrum of ages ranging from early 20’s to folks in their 70’s. The majority of the congregation falls somewhere in the 20-45 age bracket. Currently there are 20 families in the church who have children between the ages of birth-13. There is a total of 27 children who come from these families. By January 2019 these numbers will grow to 22 families and 33 children as our 6 pregnant women give birth!!

Sanctuary was started in October 2004 as part of a CRC church planting movement. The church has always rented worship space in Taproot Theatre and values this way of partnering with a like-minded neighborhood non-profit. Sanctuary meets for worship at Taproot Theatre, choosing to invest its time and resources in operating the Green Bean Coffeehouse and PATH Preschool instead of in maintaining its own facility.

The Green Bean, a non-profit coffee shop located around the corner from Taproot Theatre in Greenwood, opened in 2005 and existed in 4 different locations since then (including an up-cycled abandoned McDonalds) before opening in its current home in 2013.  In 2016, Sanctuary took over the operation of PATH Preschool, a single classroom, 20 student preschool that operates 4 half days a week and employs 1 lead and 2 assistant teachers Sanctuary sees these endeavors as part of the way we love our neighbors.

Philosophy of Ministry: Recognizing the over-programmed, hectic pace of life, Sanctuary has intentionally eliminated midweek programming with the exception of our community groups, which meet in homes around the city 1 night a week. Our Sunday gatherings are dedicated to reorienting our lives around Christ and equipping us to live as joyful witnesses of the gospel in all the places we scatter throughout the week. While we deeply value our Sunday gatherings, we believe that growth in our discipleship happens largely outside of Sunday morning, during the week. For our children, the significant place and context for discipleship is the home. The Director of Children and Family Ministries is a vital team member in this work.

The position of Director of Children and Family Ministries includes 3 areas of focus:

Faith Nurture:

  • Curate a gospel rich, age appropriate curriculum for each of our classes

Leadership Development:

  • Develop, equip and care for a rich network of volunteers
  • Come alongside parents with a view to helping them live out their faith in the presence of their children recognizing that what children experience at home has more impact on their formation than any other setting
  • Regularly pray for children, youth, families and volunteers

Program Coordination:

  • Create and maintain teaching schedule for Sunday morning Children’s Ministry (using Planning Center)
  • Maintain a safe & supportive environment for children on Sunday mornings through familiarity with and adherence to policies laid out in church’s Abuse Prevention Policy
  • Provide leadership to our Children’s Ministry volunteer team
  • Meet regularly with the pastors, and Children and Family Ministries Team, including weekly staff meetings, and monthly team meetings
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Director and lead teacher of PATH Preschool
  • Keep the congregation informed about ministries to children and youth via website, emails, verbal and printed announcements and updates, etc.
  • Develop an annual budget for ministry (with Pastors and elders)
  • Ensure child-care coverage for special church events as needed
  • 20 hours @ $15/hr
  • 3-4 of these hours on Sunday morning @ Taproot (8am - 12pm)
  • Reports to the pastor

Please send cover letter and resume to Mark Mohrlang, mmohrlang@sanctuarycrc.org.

Director of Worship Ministries

Church or Organization: Second Reformed Church

Fulton, IL

Fulton’s Second Reformed Church is seeking a Director of Worship Ministries for a vibrant, multi-generational, family-friendly church in a beautiful town located in Northern Illinois. Our congregation has a rich 100-year tradition in an area with a culturally unique heritage as a Mississippi river town.

Church leadership aims to be forward thinking and grounded in scripture. We strive to find creative and innovative methods to present the gospel and worship God in meaningful ways that change lives. It's more than just contemporary music; it's about purpose over preference and substance over style...all for the glory of God.

The purpose of arts and music at Second is to draw the worshiper to God. The Director of Arts and Music Ministry works with the Senior Pastor to craft worship services through music, visual and the arts. Currently there are approximately 50-60 such children across the ministries of nursery, Sunday school, and junior/senior high youth group. A primary responsibility will be setting and leading curriculum and programs and working with families to point children and young people towards Christ and help them grow as His disciples. This is in addition to coordinating and leading the many volunteers that serve in those ministries. The Director will partner with other New Life staff and leaders to pursue our mission to grow as one body in Christ through worship, discipleship, and outreach.
