Location and check-in

The Westin La Paloma in Tucson, Arizona, is the site for the 217th session of the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America. All plenary and advisory sessions will be held in the Westin’s facilities.

Check-in for registered attendees of General Synod will be in the lobby of the Westin La Paloma from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13.

Housing

Lodging Registration

When registering, please register only for the nights you require lodging (based on your arrival and departure dates from the Westin; this includes any pre- or post- synod dates you plan to cover on your own).

Guest Rooms and Amenities

Delegate accommodations will be in the Westin’s standard guest rooms. (View amenities provided). Each room has a mini fridge, but does not have a microwave. You will be able to keep and consume food and beverages in your hotel room, but you may not bring food and beverages purchased outside the Westin into the meeting spaces or public areas. For returning delegates who have attended synods on college campuses, keep in mind that you won’t need to bring items such as fitted bedsheets, towels, or common hotel toiletries.

Incidental Charges and Deposits

Please note that all guests will be asked to present a credit or debit card to the Westin at check-in for a temporary deposit of $100 for incidental charges for the days of General Synod, as the General Synod will cover the room rate only; any incidental charges are the delegate’s responsibility. (Note: If you are arriving early or staying late for personal reasons, an additional deposit of $100 per day beyond the RCA-paid days will apply.) With a credit card, the incidental deposit is a hold on the credit card, which is released at checkout. With a debit card, those charges come out of the guest’s account right away and are returned following checkout if there are no incidental charges incurred. It may take 7-10 days following checkout for the funds to be available again in the debit card account. You may wish to consider using a credit card for this purpose, as with a debit card, the funds must be available to be debited from your account, and it may take 7-10 days after synod ends for them to be returned.

Early Arrival or Late Departure

The Westin is offering the RCA rate for registered General Synod delegates if you would like to come a few days before synod begins or stay a few days after synod ends for personal reasons (subject to availability of rooms). For more information, see the FAQ section on Arriving Early or Staying Late.

Off-Site Lodging

We encourage all delegates to stay at the Westin for the nights of General Synod. If for any reason you choose to make lodging arrangements for yourself somewhere other than at the Westin, you will be permitted to request lodging reimbursement of up to $125 per night for five nights (or the actual cost of your lodging, whichever is lower; receipts must be kept and submitted). Please note that no General-Synod-arranged transportation from other sites will be provided, nor is that a reimbursable expense; if you choose to stay off-site, you will be responsible for arranging and covering the cost of your own transportation to and from the Westin. In addition, the provided breakfast at the Westin is included in the room rate for participants staying on site, which means that if you choose to stay off-site, you will not receive the Synod-provided breakfast, and breakfast is not a reimbursable expense.

Daylight Hours
In October, sunrise in Tucson is at 5:15 a.m. and sunset is at 7:30 p.m, with last light at 8:00 p.m. The resort has lighting along walking paths, but the city has taken steps to reduce light pollution at night, so it is very dark at night. This does allow for great views of the night sky.
