Typhoon Haiyan Needs are Still Great
Thank you to RCA members and congregations who have already given through RCA CARE Network to support Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines," says Scott Engelsman, development coordinator for RCA Global Mission. "Your gifts helped provide food, clean water, and shelter for the estimated five million people displaced by the storm."
Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on November 8 as the largest tropical storm ever recorded. The effects of the storm were felt mostly in the Philippines. Soon after the storm hit, the RCA CARE Network teamed up with international disaster relief partners World Vision and Food for the Hungry to provide essential needs to those affected. As of December 7, World Vision reported that it had reached out to 137,815 people in the affected areas.
"The needs are still great," says Engelsman. "While the typhoon is no longer front page news, the damage to infrastructure was so massive that millions of people continue to need food, water, shelter, and protection."
