Packing Tips

  • Dress for General Synod is casual.
  • The Westin’s property is large, and some walking will be required to and from lodging and meeting spaces, though there will be quite a bit less walking than there typically is on a college campus. Please bring comfortable shoes. Golf carts will be available on the Westin property to assist those who may need help getting around the property. Guests will be able to contact the hotel bellhop for rides as needed by calling the hotel’s front desk. We will address any special mobility needs indicated on your registration.
  • Tucson has a desert climate; in June, the average temperature is 102 for the high and a low of 67 degrees; once the sun sets the temperature drops quickly. This is before monsoon season so typically it is hot and dry. Hotel conference staff have told us that cooler temps in Tucson feel cooler than the same temperature in other parts of the country, so you may wish to bring a light jacket for the evenings. In addition, all of the indoor spaces at the Westin are air conditioned. It is advisable to plan to dress in layers.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle; this will help you ensure you are drinking enough water. Due to Tucson’s elevation and drier climate, it’s easier to become dehydrated, especially if you are not used to the elevation and climate.
  • In the interest of saving paper and being environmentally friendly, bring a computer or tablet and use the free wireless Internet to download and view the workbook, reports, and additions rather than printing them.
  • For those who are returning delegates who have attended synods on college campuses, remember this year you won’t need to bring items such as fitted bedsheets, towels, common hotel toiletries, or hair dryers.
  • Don’t forget to pack sunscreen.
  • The hotel does not have laundry facilities on-site, so please pack accordingly. They can send out for laundry/dry cleaning if necessary for a fee.
